1998年から全米日系人博物館にて展示の行われた「From Bento to Mixed Plate: Americans of Japanese Ancestry in Multicultural Hawai’i」展のカタログ（解説書）である。今でも全米日系人博物館のオンラインショップで購入可能（ただしサイトでは110頁となっていおり、改訂版かもしれない）。自分は新潟県立歴史博物館での巡回展示で購入したはず。

言うまでもないが「Mixed Plate」とは混ざりあう文化、アイデンティティの比喩である。個々のおかずはそれぞれの味を失うことはないが、一つのプレートの中で独自の世界を形作る。例えば日系の若い世代はフラ、音楽、探検航海等でハワイアンルネッサンスの一翼を担う。他国、他民族との混成も進んでいる。アメリカ本土の制度に乗りながら本土の日系社会とは一味違う文化を培っている。
このカタログでは目次は無い。基本的に一ページまたは見開きで一項目を説明。時間軸にそって96頁というページにここまで豊富な内容がまとまっており確かに目次は不要。展示のガイドとして充分な構成になっている。内容紹介のためにタイトルを拾ってみたが、構成そのものが本カタログの魂であるので、罪悪感を感じる。
蛇足で説明を追加してみたがスペルミスや誤りがあった場合はもちろん浅海の責任。別で取り上げた「Strength & Diversity -Japanese American Women in Hawai’i-」と共通する眼差しを感じる。
